About The Event

About Queer Peers: Queer Peers is open to all LGBTQ2SIA+ youth ages 13-25, and combines 10 weeks of comprehensive training with 10 weeks of participant-led project development. During these 20 weeks, youth will have opportunities to engage and build community with other LGBTQ2SIA+ youth, and will learn tools and strategies to care for themselves and their communities.

Our last full training series was really amazing! For their project, the youth decided to develop, coordinate, and run an amazing Sexual Health Symposium offering 12 different workshops to LGBTQ2SIA+ youth. Known as “More Than the Talk”, this event saw the involvement of 28 youth participants, 12 facilitators, and 10 community organizations.

This year’s Queer Peers program has be planned by the organizers of More Than the Talk, and will run from October 1st, 2019 – March 3rd, 2020 (with a 3 week break in December). We will be meeting every Tuesday from 6-8pm at AVI, and participants will receive food, bus tickets, and a $10 stipend every week.

Some of our exciting workshop topics include: Disability and ableism, harm reduction basics, queer sexual health, decolonization and white supremacy culture, lgbtq2sia+ history and liberation, creating intentional community, food justice, knowing your rights, and more!
